Man shall not live by dinner rolls alone.

Having provided for our minds with the Psych museum in Akron, Sarah and I both felt a need for spiritual fulfillment, and a good meal. But where can you get both under the same roof? Why, Ernest Angley's Grace Cathedral and Buffet, of course!

A man with a vision, a sneeze guard and a set of chafing dishes.

The dream and vision of Pentecostal televangelist Ernest Angley includes a cathedral, television studio, buffet, gift shop (natch), and, in the basement, the Life of Christ Display -- a dozen scenes from the life of Christ, hand-carved from molded plastic, and adorned with such finishing touches as real human fingernails.

The artwork is incredibly detailed and very interesting to look at.
Sometimes the figures and scenes are a little hokey. This struck me less as "glorious resurrection" and more as "best gotcha moment in history.

After the display, we hit up the gift shop, and then the buffet. Despite the immodest puffery ("a food-lover's paradise!"), the buffet was average at best. On the other hand, it was $10 for a dinner buffet.

How tempted was I to ask the hostess for a table for 13 for "one last supper"? Very.

  1. This worries me...oh, dear! Table for 13, please! What did the gift shop sell?
